Driffield Residency, Yorkshire Hospices, South Yorkshire Tour

3/15/2016

PictureSunshine Music!

We've had lots of fun work with Live Music Now in the past couple months. We spent a very sunny Thursday at Martin House in Wetherby and then at Wheatfields Hospice in Leeds playing music to some lovely folks. Both venues were extremely hospitable and friendly, and we especially loved seeing the therapy dog in action at Wheatfields.

In early March we did a 4 day tour in South Yorkshire in special schools and a day centre. We got some lovely feedback from the day centre - see below:

Just a note to say thank you so much for allowing our group and others to have the wonderful experience of 'Katie's Allsorts Trio' in Hillsborough yesterday afternoon.
It was a fantastic performance which was greatly enjoyed and appreciated by everyone who attended. We managed to gather around 40 people including support staff to participate. It soon became a bit of party afternoon with everyone dancing, singing, performing. They had a ball!!!

Could you please pass on our good wishes to the performers who communicated with a natural ability acknowledging the person first before the disability and are hoping that it will not be too far in the distant future before we link in with your Charity once more.

Kindest Regards,

Angela Cockerill & Sue Dimler

King's Mill School 10 Week Residency

Breath control game
Recently, Katie and Aron completed a 10 week residency travelling up to Driffield, East Yorkshire to work with a group at King's Mill School. The group composed their own original composition, 'Sam the Builder' inspired by the construction of a brand new King's Mill School next door (opening April 2016) and took a trip to the recording studio at Driffield School to record the vocals and drums. Katie and Aron made the backing track that the pupils sang along to. Scroll down to hear the song!!

On top of 'Sam the Builder', the pupils also did a live performance of their version of 'Beat it' complete with MJ samples and beats. We also did a variety of games, short songs and musical activities each week. Both Katie and Aron had so much fun working with King's Mill School and are very proud of all of the pupils - well done to all!!
Lyrics
Sam the builder, she's the boss
Do your best, don't make her cross
On the radio, the weatherman said
A big storm's coming, straight ahead!

Chorus:
We've got to build the school on time
Can't miss the deadline
We've got to build the school on time
Can't miss the deadline
Working hard to make a dime
Can't miss the deadline

Sam told the workers, build build build
Fast as you can, HURRY UP MAN!
The storm is here, just as we fear
Thunder and lightening, let's turn it up a gear!

Chorus

A tornado is coming, straight ahead
Smashing through buildings, vehicles and sheds
Oh look it's here, right on my head
.......AHHHHHHH!

Chorus

Nottinghamshire Tour

We recently had a swell time in Mansfield area in November 2015 working in 8 SEN schools. What a blast! Check out a performance overview live from Beech Academy:

Great Hot Grimsby

7/21/2013

PictureDrums are definitely the coolest instrument, kids!
We had the pleasure this month to play at Edward Heneage Primary School and Burser Street Academy in Grimsby as part of Grimsby Jazz. The weather was splendid and the kids were as good as gold, even though the room was toasty with our hot jazz.

Special thanks to Gill Wilde for sorting it all out - we look forward to more!

On another note, our feedback has come through from all the venues we've been to in the past while, check it out on our Reviews/Feedback page!

Newcastle Tour - Showing kids that there is better music out there than 'Gangnam Style'

This month we did our first Live Music Now tour up to Newcastle area to do workshops in special schools. Pictured left: Soundcheck before our largest performance to over 150 kids. What a great time! Pete and Aron especially liked pretenting they were on a chat show with the wireless microphones. Overall, we were so impressed with each of the schools we visited, the staff were all so easy going and helpful, the kids listened very well and participated enthusiastically.
We hope to see you all again!

We visited:
Benton Dene School
Sir Charles Parsons School
Trinity School - Deneview
Linhope Pru

Newcastle Bridges School (Roycroft Clinic)
Percy Hedley School (Upper and Lower)
Hadrian School
Keelman's Way School
Silverdale School

In our spare time we had fun exploring Newcastle and found some dandy spots. One of our favorite funk/soul venues, Hoochie Coochie was on form (The Allsorts Band played there back in November) 9 Bar Coffee served up some excellent java, square mile roasted style and the food looked so good. After our first time at Dabbawl for some Indian street food, we had to go back again. Katie cured her fear of savory pies having too much pastry at The Red House and thank goodness for Central Bean being right beside the hotel with their lovely cappuccinos both of the traditional (for Pete and Katie) and modern (Aron) variety. We saw a friend's gig at The Head of Steam, Katie got some new drum heads at Newcastle Drum Centre and we had our loose leaf minds blown at Quilliam Bros. Tea House. Lastly BrewDog Newcastle taught us a thing or two about craft beer. What a reet lush time, we love Newcastle!!

We had a great time at LIJEC as part of the event hosted by Jazz North. You can read more about it here. We did a short demonstration overviewing the work we do with Live Music Now showcasing our newest activity - The Style Bonanza. In this game, we explore how music can change when we wear different hats. Special thanks to Martin Longhawn for filling in for Aron Kyne.

We are looking forward to some upcoming work in May in the Newcastle area. Fingers crossed this will be our first time on 'tour' (staying overnight). Fun!

Say 'YES' to British Pork!

Aron's slick keyboard case...
We have been having a blast through February and March doing performances in East Yorkshire. We've found some fantastic cafes, and learned how passionate local folks are about their pork, and we agree wholeheartedly (except for veggie Aron).

We have been developing a fantastic new activity incorporating some dandy headgear including a golden top hat that has been going down a storm. Our performances have been quite varied, from intimate living-room style concerts for just a few people, ranging to large halls filled with energetic and lively kids. Being flexible has never been so important in our careers! Each time we perform we are learning more about each other, our audiences and how to make connections with people. And every time we drive home, we relish in the fact that WE HAVE THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD!!!!
